Description

  • Develop and progressively elaborate capital expenditure estimates for engineering, procurement, and construction costs for solar and BESS projects from initial screening through preconstruction.
  • Create conceptual and parametric cost estimates using engineering input, historical cost data, and current market trends.
  • Develop master project scopes of work and prepare more detailed CapEx estimates as projects advance through milestones.
  • Prepare solicitation packages, statements of work, and specification packages for third-party contractors, suppliers, EPCs, and consultants.
  • Lead contractor and EPC solicitation processes in collaboration with Procurement teams.
  • Normalize and evaluate third-party solicitation responses against modeled estimates and master scopes of work, and recommend next steps to the company.
  • Support contract management and project management teams in negotiating third-party contracts.
  • Provide engineering and constructability reviews for business development efforts, including site evaluation and review of project and environmental documents.
  • Identify project risks, develop due diligence memos, and help prepare sales and offer documents.
  • Conduct site visits as needed and maintain internal and external cost databases to support future estimating and forecasting.
  • Assess third-party EPC and contractor capabilities, including production rates, project management, and preconstruction capacity.
  • Confirm equipment specifications and bills of materials/quantities for balance-of-system scopes and support procurement decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, finance, economics, or construction.
  • 3-5 years of utility-scale solar estimating experience.
  • Experience with renewable energy construction practices, particularly utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of the year.
  • Experience with conceptual/parametric estimating, bid tendering, detailed quantity estimating, and change order estimating.
  • Ability to estimate civil, mechanical, and electrical construction, with emphasis on DC cabling, MV cabling, single-axis PV racking, high voltage, and interconnection.
  • Understanding of critical path scheduling concepts and familiarity with MS Project, Primavera P6, or Smartsheet.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and estimating platforms.
  • Familiarity with data management and data analytics practices is very helpful.
  • Prior use of estimating software such as Heavy Bid, AccuBid, or Inteli Bid is a plus.
  • Ability to interact with senior-level management internally and externally.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of the organization and make data-based decisions.
  • Critical and strategic thinking skills, professionalism, and a customer-focused, results-oriented approach.
