Description

  • Build and own AI-powered developer tooling, including AI coding tools, LLM-integrated workflows, and automation for Retirement engineers.
  • Design, build, and operate CI/CD systems, infrastructure services, and deployment pipelines end to end.
  • Set and enforce engineering quality standards with observability to support reliability and operational excellence.
  • Identify bottlenecks in developer workflows and deliver scalable improvements to increase team velocity.
  • Drive multi-quarter investments across test automation, database performance, permissions systems, authentication, and third-party integrations.
  • Improve data models, APIs, and system contracts through architectural changes.
  • Debug and resolve production infrastructure issues and continuously strengthen operational tooling.
  • Collaborate with Retirement Engineering and platform teams through reviews, pairing, and technical consultation.
  • Write well-tested production code that ships quickly and improves other engineers’ productivity.
  • Mentor teammates and help strengthen engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience building and shipping production products or platforms.
  • Hands-on experience delivering AI-powered tooling, LLM integrations, coding assistants, or developer-facing automation to real users.
  • Strong background in CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and developer tooling.
  • Experience with high-availability systems, database performance, and reliability-critical domains.
  • End-to-end ownership mindset, including production support, operational work, and long-term roadmap planning.
  • Proven ability to identify and drive multi-quarter technical investments.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering teams and non-engineering partners to solve productivity and infrastructure problems at scale.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to lead project-level communication and advocate for technical investments.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and modern infrastructure tools, or the ability to ramp quickly.
  • A pragmatic, execution-focused approach with a bias toward solutions that make other engineers faster and more effective.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay with equity (RSUs) for full-time employees.
  • Cash compensation targeted at $175,000-$205,000 per year in Denver and most remote locations.
  • Cash compensation targeted at $220,000-$245,000 per year for San Francisco, Seattle, and New York.
  • Benefits including health insurance, 401(k)s, and HR support through Gusto's core offering.
  • Hybrid office schedule of approximately 2-3 days per week for employees based in Denver, San Francisco, or New York City.
  • Secure remote-work setup allowed when approved, with a reliable internet connection required.
