Description

Lead the development of new features end-to-end, from refining requirements with Product to shipping and monitoring in production.
Drive technical design for significant system changes and help set development standards for the Backend team.
Mentor other engineers while remaining open to learning from teammates.
Identify opportunities to improve the existing technology stack with pragmatic new technology choices.
Operate with a high degree of autonomy by spotting problems, proposing solutions, and following through independently.
Collaborate with Product Managers to refine requirements, push back constructively, and provide accurate estimates.
Support production systems and monitor the impact of delivered work in a live environment.
Communicate technical decisions clearly to non-engineers and enable effective async collaboration.

Requirements

Strong experience leading non-trivial work in modern PHP 7/8+, including object-oriented design, testability, and design trade-offs.
Ability to ship production React and TypeScript features end-to-end without supervision.
Experience working on high-traffic web applications and understanding scale concerns such as database hotspots, caching, queueing, idempotency, and observability.
Practical experience with MySQL or similar relational databases, including reading EXPLAIN plans and tuning slow queries.
Experience designing and consuming HTTP APIs, including handling third-party reliability issues.
Daily use of modern AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or similar, with sound judgment about their output.
Strong product collaboration, communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Preferred: DevOps experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Preferred: Experience with Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
Preferred: Experience with Python, Node, or other backend languages.
Preferred: Experience with Elasticsearch and GraphQL.
Preferred: Experience evaluating or building LLM-powered product features, including prompt design, RAG, evals, and cost/latency trade-offs.
