Description

  • Establish financial systems, grant tracking, reporting calendars, and spend-down controls across transferred and new grants.
  • Own year-end audit, Form 990, budgeting, and board-level financial reporting.
  • Build financial models, scenario plans, and forecasts to support strategic decisions.
  • Lead the financial, legal, and compliance workstreams to spin out the organization as an independent 501(c)(3).
  • Set up payroll, benefits, and staff transfer processes during organizational launch.
  • Manage external partners across accounting, audit, legal, payroll, insurance, and HR functions.
  • Design and maintain financial systems that can support rapid international growth and complex funding structures.
  • Partner with leadership on budget allocation and analytically rigorous organizational decision-making.
  • Own compliance and institutional risk infrastructure, including charitable registration, insurance, governance, and regulatory filings.
  • Support board operations, including meeting cadence, minutes, conflict-of-interest disclosures, and fiduciary onboarding.
  • Serve as the internal point of contact for legal matters and review or negotiate contracts, grant agreements, MOUs, and partnerships.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in finance, strategic operations, consulting, nonprofit leadership, startup operations, or a related field.
  • Significant experience managing organizational finance and budgeting.
  • Experience sourcing and managing outside counsel, accounting firms, auditors, insurance brokers, and payroll providers.
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels, balancing policy design with detailed execution.
  • Strong written communication skills to explain complex financial and legal concepts to board members, staff, and funders.
  • CPA, JD, or an equivalent professional credential strongly preferred.
  • Nonprofit-specific training or certification such as CGAP or CNAP is a plus.
  • Experience with nonprofit finance, compliance, and 501(c)(3) environments is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Form 990, single audits, charitable solicitation registration, IRS rebuttable presumption, and state-level tax exemptions is strongly preferred.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.; the role cannot sponsor or transfer a U.S. employment visa.
