Description

  • Copy edit news stories, analyses, audio scripts, newsletters, live blogs, and other content for the FT’s US weekend operation.
  • Perform final edits of news stories and longer articles under time pressure while maintaining high standards of accuracy, clarity, and precision.
  • Write sharp digital headlines and other display copy for online publishing.
  • Edit eye-catching social media posts that adhere to the FT’s editorial standards.
  • Raise queries with reporters and fellow editors when needed to ensure content quality and accuracy.
  • Act as a gatekeeper for quality across the US news operation.
  • Apply digital publishing concepts such as visual storytelling, audience engagement, and metadata in editing work.
  • Collaborate closely with reporters, editors, and global colleagues across the FT network.

Requirements

  • Experience as a copy editor with a strong focus on accurate, precise, and clear content.
  • Strong background in online content and digital publishing.
  • Ability to edit to consistently high standards under time pressure.
  • Confidence to raise queries and work collaboratively with reporters and fellow editors.
  • Strong awareness of digital publishing concepts, including visual storytelling, audience engagement, and metadata.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and editing for social channels.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability to work Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 12pm to 8pm EST.
  • Ability to work from New York City or elsewhere where the FT can employ in the relevant US state or country.
  • Experience with news, analysis, newsletters, live blogs, or audio scripts is preferred.
