Description

  • Own the architecture for Groups Shopping, including hotel discovery, scoring, and selection surfaces.
  • Lead improvements to property ranking using behavioral data, response signals, fit signals, and LLM reasoning.
  • Define and ship AI-enabled product experiences that help organizers search, compare, and decide within the booking flow.
  • Make key infrastructure decisions for AWS-based backend services, queues, data pipelines, ECS, and Lambda.
  • Own the team's deploy and CI/CD strategy and improve operational reliability.
  • Set the technical bar through code reviews, design reviews, and abstraction decisions.
  • Mentor senior engineers, run design discussions, and unblock cross-functional work.
  • Write technical documentation and serve as a named technical contact for other teams needing a Groups Shopping perspective.

Requirements

  • Production experience with TypeScript and Node, with ability to become productive in the stack within weeks.
  • Active daily use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, with a clear point of view on when they help or hurt.
  • Deep AWS and CI/CD experience, including debugging ECS services in production and improving slow pipelines.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and non-trivial infrastructure decisions.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, including writing concise technical docs and leading design discussions.
  • Comfort leading a team as the most senior engineer driving direction, sequencing, and quality.
  • Deep TypeScript and Node expertise, including internals, performance, and type-system fluency, is a plus.
  • Product thinking and the ability to consider problems from the customer's perspective is a plus.
  • Travel, hospitality, or marketplace background is a plus.
  • React Native familiarity is a plus.

  • Competitive base salary with a base pay range of $148,200 to $205,000 USD.
  • Total compensation may include equity and/or variable pay (OTE).
