Description

  • Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of Elasticsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
  • Provide technical vision and direction for indexing, query execution, retrieval, and relevance infrastructure.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
  • Shape long-term technical roadmaps with partner and product teams.
  • Lead projects from concept through completion, including technical design and cross-team collaboration.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for key Elasticsearch domains and continuously improve them.
  • Mentor expert engineers through technical and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams using remote development and code-review practices.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating sophisticated, large-scale search platforms or distributed storage systems.
  • Experience defining long-term technical vision for core search or retrieval systems across teams or organizations.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or comparable search and indexing technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in core Java, advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features such as lambdas.
  • Strong understanding of search and information retrieval theory, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Ability to work autonomously and guide complex projects from design through delivery.
  • Experience mentoring senior or expert engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for distributed collaboration.
  • Experience with open-source projects, source-control workflows, and continuous integration is preferred.

  • Base salary of €102,700–€162,500, with no variable compensation component.
