Description

  • Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of Elasticsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
  • Set technical vision and direction for indexing, query execution, retrieval, and relevance infrastructure.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
  • Shape long-term technical roadmaps with product teams and cross-functional partners.
  • Lead projects from concept through completion, including technical design and implementation.
  • Serve as a technical authority and go-to expert for key Elasticsearch domains.
  • Mentor expert engineers through technical and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate with distributed engineering teams using code review and consensus-driven development practices.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance search platforms.
  • Experience defining long-term technical vision for core search or retrieval systems across teams or organizations.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or comparable search and indexing technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in core Java, advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features such as lambdas.
  • Understanding of large-scale data systems, distributed storage engines, search internals, and retrieval theory.
  • Ability to work autonomously and guide complex projects from design through completion.
  • Experience mentoring experienced or expert engineers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for collaboration across distributed teams.
  • Experience with open-source projects, source-control workflows, and continuous integration is preferred.

  • Base salary of €73,300–€115,900 EUR with no variable compensation component.
