Description

  • Define, lead, and contribute to the evolution of Elasticsearch’s core search and indexing capabilities.
  • Set technical vision and direction for Elasticsearch search infrastructure, including indexing, retrieval, query execution, and relevance.
  • Research advances in search infrastructure, data structures, and retrieval algorithms.
  • Shape long-term technical roadmaps with partner and product teams.
  • Design and deliver projects from concept through completion with distributed engineering teams.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for key Elasticsearch domains and continuously improve them.
  • Mentor expert engineers through technical and professional guidance.
  • Collaborate across distributed teams using code review, consensus-based decisions, and incremental delivery.

Requirements

  • Experience leading technical projects involving search infrastructure and distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance search or data platforms.
  • Experience defining long-term technical vision and roadmaps for core search or retrieval systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch, Lucene, Solr, or distributed storage engines.
  • Strong Java programming skills, including advanced data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features such as lambdas.
  • Deep understanding of search, indexing, information retrieval, algorithms, and search data structures.
  • Ability to work autonomously and guide projects from technical design through completion.
  • Experience mentoring senior or expert engineers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for distributed-team collaboration.
  • Experience with open-source projects, source-control workflows, and continuous integration is preferred.

  • Base salary of $154,000–$243,600 CAD with no variable compensation component.
