Description

  • Drive performance improvements for Dropbox’s web application by profiling React surfaces, identifying high-impact opportunities, and shipping measurable fixes.
  • Lead the broader performance initiative across iOS, Android, and desktop by coordinating with platform experts and setting technical strategy.
  • Own the full performance workflow from measurement and root-cause analysis through code changes and validation in production telemetry.
  • Build and maintain measurement, instrumentation, and regression-detection systems used by Core Engineering.
  • Write production code regularly in JavaScript and React, with additional backend work in Python and Go.
  • Set performance engineering standards across Core Engineering and mentor IC3 and IC4 engineers on profiling and performance-aware design.
  • Use AI tools in day-to-day engineering work and improve AI-assisted workflows across Core to increase engineering throughput.
  • Partner with engineering leaders, PMs, and designers to influence roadmaps and architectural decisions with performance as a product priority.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field involving coding, or equivalent technical experience.
  • Minimum of 12 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years at the Senior level.
  • Hands-on experience improving performance in production web applications.
  • Experience profiling JavaScript and React surfaces and using flame graphs, heat maps, traces, and RUM data to identify root causes.
  • Experience using AI tooling and LLM-assisted workflows to accelerate performance work.
  • Experience optimizing AI-assisted engineering workflows for other engineers, including selecting tools and defining guardrails.
  • Production experience with modern backend services in Python or Go that support consumer-facing client surfaces.
  • Experience leading cross-cutting technical strategy across multiple teams or surfaces, including design docs, architecture, and execution to measurable outcomes.
  • Experience working on consumer-facing products and shipping changes that moved customer-visible metrics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a track record of influencing decisions outside a direct reporting line.
  • Preferred: experience profiling and improving native iOS applications in Swift, including startup time, scroll performance, and memory behavior.
  • Preferred: experience profiling and improving native Android applications in Kotlin, including startup time, scroll performance, and memory behavior.
  • Preferred: experience profiling and improving desktop client applications, including startup, IPC, and resource usage.
  • Preferred: experience building or owning performance regression-detection systems integrated into CI/CD.
  • Preferred: experience with RUM telemetry pipelines, sampling strategy, and statistically rigorous performance comparisons.
  • Preferred: track record of mentoring senior engineers and raising the technical bar across an engineering organization.
  • Ability to participate in on-call rotations if assigned to a services team.

Benefits

  • US salary range of $248,200–$335,800 in Zone 1, $223,400–$302,200 in Zone 2, and $198,600–$268,600 in Zone 3.
