Description

  • Profile and optimize CPU and game-thread performance in Unreal Engine, including cross-thread bottlenecks, hitching, and tick overhead.
  • Diagnose and fix gameplay and engine performance issues by writing and shipping C++ code changes.
  • Profile and optimize GPU and rendering pipeline performance, including draw calls, overdraw, shader complexity, and memory bandwidth.
  • Collaborate with rendering teams to improve material pipelines, shader permutation reduction, LODs, culling, and shadow performance.
  • Own memory budget compliance, identify memory leaks, and manage fragmentation across target platforms.
  • Build memory regression tests and ongoing regression detection into CI workflows.
  • Profile and optimize Unreal networking and replication performance for multiplayer engagements with latency constraints.
  • Develop internal profiling tools, automation scripts, and developer-facing UX in C++ and Python.
  • Document profiling methodology and tool usage so other engineers can reproduce analysis independently.
  • Provide technical leadership and feature ownership across planning, design, implementation, and optimization phases.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional game engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a dedicated performance, engine, or low-level systems role.
  • At least 2 shipped commercial titles where performance was a named ownership area.
  • Deep C++ expertise, including memory layout, cache efficiency, branch prediction, SIMD, and compiler optimization behavior.
  • Strong Unreal Engine 5 profiling experience with Unreal Insights, Stat commands, LLM, and GPU Visualiser.
  • Cross-platform shipping experience on at least two platform types, such as PC, console, or mobile.
  • Python proficiency for automation scripts, CI integration, and performance telemetry processing.
  • Ability to identify root causes and implement structural fixes in C++, not just provide recommendations.
  • Ability to explain performance problems clearly to gameplay engineers or producers.
  • Preferred: experience preparing and passing Sony or Microsoft console performance certification submissions.
  • Preferred: mobile performance optimization experience on Android and/or iOS, including thermal and bandwidth constraints.
  • Preferred: custom allocator or memory pool implementation experience in C++.
  • Preferred: shader authoring knowledge in HLSL or GLSL sufficient to analyze cost.
  • Preferred: familiarity with Tracy, Optick, or custom in-house profiling frameworks.
  • Preferred: experience optimizing Nanite, Lumen, or other UE5 rendering features at engine depth.
