Description

  • Lead security strategy across DOE authorization and NRC licensing, including the anticipated 10 CFR Part 57 pathway.
  • Develop and demonstrate a security approach tailored to Deep Fission’s first-of-a-kind underground reactor design.
  • Interpret and apply NRC requirements under 10 CFR Part 73, including physical protection, cyber security interfaces, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
  • Map DOE security requirements to facility design and operations and develop DOE-to-NRC bridging analyses.
  • Contribute to DOE authorization and NRC operating-license application documents.
  • Define security-informed design elements, including target sets, protected and vital areas, insider-threat mitigation, and access controls.
  • Author or direct physical security plans, security-basis documents, and supporting analyses.
  • Translate regulatory requirements into actionable tasks for Engineering, Operations, and IT while maintaining implementation traceability.
  • Serve as the designated Facility Security Officer and primary security interface with NRC and DOE.
  • Build and maintain the operational security program and scale it across future Deep Fission sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, or four years of directly relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of professional security experience in a nuclear, DOD, or DOE-regulated environment.
  • At least three years of direct experience with NRC nuclear security regulations at a licensed, applicant, or authorized facility.
  • Experience authoring or substantially revising an NRC-reviewed Physical Security Plan or comparable regulator-facing security document.
  • Direct experience engaging NRC staff in pre-application meetings, audits, or licensing reviews.
  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 73, including protected and vital area design, target-set analysis, and insider-threat mitigation.
  • Working knowledge of NRC cyber security interfaces, including 10 CFR 73.54.
  • Knowledge of NISPOM / 32 CFR Part 117 sufficient to serve as a designated FSO.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, regulatory interpretation, and independent program-building abilities.
  • U.S. citizen and U.S. person eligible under 10 CFR 810; able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q or final U.S. TOP SECRET clearance. Preferred qualifications include FSO experience, advanced-reactor or FoAK licensing experience, DOE security knowledge, fleet-scale program design, and ISP certification.
