Description

  • Set the technical direction for Lakebase Manager and own the quality and reliability of team deliverables.
  • Drive architecture and design for the most complex and high-risk parts of the product.
  • Write production code for core platform and control-plane functionality.
  • Define SLIs and drive SLOs and long-term reliability improvements across the database lifecycle.
  • Lead architecture reviews, testing practices, and engineering standards for the team.
  • Mentor engineers and raise the team’s distributed-systems and design capabilities through code and design review.
  • Lead cross-team initiatives and unblock dependencies across storage, compute, proxy, and console components.
  • Partner with engineering and product leadership to shape and deliver a long-term technical roadmap.
  • Own reliability-critical operations such as database creation and deletion, wake-up and suspend, hot standby, and HA failover.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems.
  • Experience with testing, monitoring, and defining SLIs/SLOs for production systems.
  • Proven technical leadership as an individual contributor, influencing architecture and direction without formal management authority.
  • Strong hands-on ability to design systems and write production code for large-scale distributed services.
  • Experience operating reliability-critical, highly available services, including on-call, incident response, and HA/failover.
  • Ability to work toward a multi-year vision while delivering incrementally and balancing short-term delivery with long-term stability.
  • Ability to align multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Go, Rust, or a similar systems language.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and Kubernetes is a plus.
  • BS or higher in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Local pay range: $182,400 to $247,000 USD.
  • Eligibility for annual performance bonus.
