Description

  • Create charts, graphs, interactives, infographics, and other visual designs for digital products.
  • Partner with journalists, researchers, testing experts, and content teams to develop story concepts and design approaches.
  • Analyze and interpret data to create clear, audience-focused visualizations.
  • Develop compelling visual narratives using imagery, layout, structure, and interaction.
  • Design high-fidelity visual systems including typography, color, iconography, and layout while maintaining brand consistency.
  • Prototype and develop interactive graphics using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Implement interactive graphics in the content management system.
  • Optimize visual and interactive experiences for desktop, mobile, and other platforms.
  • Update and refresh graphics and monitor relevant industry and competitor trends.

Requirements

  • BS degree in design, computer science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of professional design experience for an information-driven digital publication.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating visual design, graphic design, data visualization, and information graphics.
  • Ability to translate accessible designs into code for desktop and mobile environments.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, including interpreting raw data, identifying trends, and distilling complex information.
  • Knowledge of design fundamentals and storytelling techniques, including color theory, typography, composition, and layout.
  • Experience with D3, JavaScript libraries, SVG animation, interaction design, data acquisition, data cleaning, Python or R, and chart design.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to incorporate feedback and changing project requirements.
  • Experience designing for a consumer-focused organization preferred.
  • Must reside in an approved hiring location; the position is not eligible for sponsorship or relocation assistance.
