Description

  • Support and expand data loss prevention capabilities to protect the Coinbase ecosystem from sophisticated data security incidents.
  • Help execute the long-term strategy for the data prevention program to improve the organization’s security posture.
  • Implement and maintain complex data protection controls across a decentralized technology environment without slowing business operations.
  • Deploy data protection tools and technologies in collaboration with cross-functional teams such as endpoint security and IT.
  • Automate DLP engineering and operations workflows using LLMs, agentic AI, and an automation-first approach.
  • Produce quantitative and qualitative metrics to inform leadership on program impact, risks, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with Security, Privacy, engineering, product, compliance, and risk teams to drive remediation and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Measure control effectiveness and help address changing global laws and regulations affecting sensitive data.
  • Work on insider threat and investigations-related technologies and operational processes supporting sensitive data protection.

Requirements

  • Experience as a security engineer in data protection with a track record of delivering measurable results.
  • Technical ability to solve operational issues with engineering solutions.
  • Direct experience testing, tuning, and implementing data protection controls across multiple operating systems.
  • Ability to manage controls across platforms such as iOS and Chrome and across decentralized datasets.
  • Experience creating scalable processes, automating workflows, and leveraging ML/AI where appropriate.
  • Ability to work discreetly and thoughtfully in cross-functional settings to mitigate risk.
  • Strong awareness of the insider threat landscape and the legal, regulatory, and ethical considerations of handling sensitive data globally.
  • Experience with insider threat technologies such as SIEM, UBA, and DLP, plus understanding of investigations and/or the intelligence cycle.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write briefs and leadership-facing assessments.
  • Proven business acumen and understanding of how Security supports Coinbase’s product strategy and broader business goals.
  • Ability to balance business needs, urgency, competing constraints, and shipping high-quality pragmatic solutions in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots in daily workflows, with human-in-the-loop practices to improve efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • 3+ years of security engineering experience solving complex security challenges across enterprise-wide DLP programs (preferred).
  • Experience solving operational problems with an automation-first mindset (preferred).
  • Experience in Web3 and crypto-forward organizations or traditional financial institutions (preferred).

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of $144,500 to $170,000 USD, excluding equity and bonus.
