Description

  • Set the one- to three-year architecture and technical direction for Chainguard Containers.
  • Develop roadmaps with engineering and product leaders and deliver large multi-team projects from concept through adoption.
  • Make and document product and architecture trade-offs, including build-versus-buy and re-platforming decisions.
  • Lead through technical influence by setting design standards, reviewing critical code, and mentoring senior engineers.
  • Use AI coding agents safely in development, review, and operations, while establishing team practices.
  • Investigate issues across services, teams, customer escalations, support, and go-to-market functions.
  • Represent Chainguard in open source, container ecosystem, standards, customer, and industry forums.
  • Maintain system health through observability, on-call participation, and structural incident prevention.

Requirements

  • 10+ years building and operating software used by paying customers, including several years leading large multi-team projects.
  • Relevant experience with container images, registries, OCI, Linux distributions, package management, build systems, or software supply chain security.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership without direct management authority.
  • Experience creating and executing roadmaps with engineering and product leaders.
  • Strong product-level judgment and experience making roadmap-shaping trade-offs.
  • Architectural depth in Go, including designing services from scratch, plus API design, databases, caching, and GCP or AWS infrastructure.
  • Daily experience using agentic coding tools and improving team workflows through AI.
  • Excellent written English and experience leading distributed, remote-first teams.
  • Visible industry contributions through open source, standards, talks, writing, or notable systems.
  • Preferred: expertise in SBOMs, Sigstore, SLSA, Terraform, or projects such as Wolfi, apko, melange, containerd, Kubernetes, or OCI specifications.
  • Remote location in the United States preferred; Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany considered. Visa sponsorship and relocation are unavailable.

  • Base salary range of $229,000–$258,000 USD.
