Description

  • Oversee and ensure design excellence and overall design quality across a multi-office region, including regular regional design-standard reviews.
  • Lead and present innovative design concepts for select clients, emphasizing storytelling and communicating how design solutions deliver client value and metrics.
  • Partner with marketing and communications to build regional narratives, secure publication opportunities, and pursue third-party recognition and design awards.
  • Represent the firm externally at regional events, conferences, and speaking engagements, delivering 3–5 external presentations or publications annually.
  • Nurture and build a community of designers in the region by setting standards for collaboration, experimentation, and creativity.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop senior design leaders; hold local design leaders accountable for mentorship and growth of mid-career and emerging designers.
  • Coordinate with regional and office leadership to identify and fill creative talent gaps and ensure high-performance design teams in all offices.
  • Act as a regional leader in defining and executing strategic growth plans and business initiatives, partnering with Regional Director and practice leaders to achieve regional financial targets.
  • Allocate time and priorities across responsibilities (approximately 60% design excellence, 30% transforming the design team, 10% transforming the organization).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture required (degree from an accredited program preferred).
  • Generally at least 20 years of related experience in design leadership roles or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience leading others in a design studio or practice segment required.
  • Design portfolio of significant built and unbuilt work; third-party recognition of your work as a lead designer by local, regional, or national design awards programs and recognized publications is required.
  • Strong oral presentation, storytelling, and communication skills required, with ability to communicate complex business and design ideas persuasively.
  • Ability to understand and execute business strategy, contribute to regional growth plans, and support achieving a minimum of 10% regional growth year over year.
  • Professional acumen and maturity demonstrated by authentic, respectful communication and leadership.
  • Current US Architectural Registration preferred.
  • Additional accreditation or training (including LEED) preferred.
  • Travel required.
