Description

  • Manage the Legal Advisory and Governance Section and supervise senior and junior legal advisors.
  • Provide expert legal advice to the Director-General and BCI divisions on organizational obligations and operations.
  • Assess legal risks and help minimize exposure across employment, contract, privacy, competition, and related legal areas.
  • Support the development and review of internal governance policies and assess the impact of external factors.
  • Draft legal opinions, memoranda, and briefing documents.
  • Formulate terms and formalities for settling disputes.
  • Monitor implementation of legal clauses and related obligations.
  • Advise members on legal issues involving corporate and charity governance, fundraising, marketing, data protection, trademarks, copyright, defamation, and litigation matters.
  • Evaluate multiple inputs and impacts when advising on decisions or courses of action.

Requirements

  • Formal/professional legal education such as an LLB or GDL.
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ post-qualification experience in private practice or in-house roles.
  • At least some in-house experience is highly preferable.
  • Proven general counsel experience in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Broad legal knowledge covering areas such as corporate, contract, employment, and litigation law.
  • Strong understanding of how legal issues affect organizations and ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
  • Experience building constructive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on blockchain-related projects using own initiative.
  • Excellent English writing skills and strong interpersonal, communication, multitasking, prioritization, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail abilities.
  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology is preferred.
