Description

  • Support the Head of Compliance in ensuring the Compliance Function and Compliance Risk Management Framework operate effectively and meet regulatory expectations.
  • Lead the Compliance Framework and Compliance Program, including documenting and maintaining policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Work with business and global risk and compliance teams to build, embed, and maintain governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
  • Maintain Afterpay’s Australian Credit Licence, including governance, compliance oversight, due diligence, and annual compliance certificate submissions to ASIC.
  • Manage monitoring, reporting, audit, and testing activities, including reporting to regulators, the Board, and internal governance committees.
  • Assist with compliance incident management and assessments of potential reportable situations.
  • Lead projects to assess, implement, and monitor adherence to new regulatory obligations and policies.
  • Oversee compliance risk assessments for new financial products, services, and initiatives.
  • Maintain compliance risk management records, including project plans, issue logs, incident logs, risk assessments, and action logs.
  • Advise internal management and business partners on compliance program implementation and operation.
  • Report on compliance risks, trends, and key performance metrics.
  • Drive a strong risk culture and compliance awareness in day-to-day business decisions.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience as a compliance and risk professional in Australian financial services environments.
  • Experience with obligations for regulated financial services products and maintenance of financial services regulatory licences.
  • Experience building and maintaining frameworks that support regulated financial services products.
  • Knowledge of regulatory interactions and investigations, including managing information requests and audits.
  • Ability to respond with urgency and develop and track management action plans.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly to stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Deep knowledge of financial services regulation, including compliance, governance, culture, risk management, and individual accountability expectations.
  • Subject matter expertise across regulated consumer credit, BNPL compliance, payment systems regulation, P2P/non-cash payment facilities, financial services licensing, marketing collateral review, design and distribution obligations, AML, collections, consumer protection, anti-bribery and corruption, and other conduct-related areas.
  • Experience identifying, recording, and overseeing remediation of incidents and issues, including escalation to appropriate teams and/or regulators.
  • Ability to prioritise competing deadlines and influence cross-functionally and globally.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Passion for compliance and its role in business and community outcomes.
  • Data and technical focus, with the ability to analyse and operationalize new and emerging regulatory obligations.
  • Experience using innovative tools such as AI to improve compliance outcomes.
  • AU-based, preferably located in Sydney or Melbourne.
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones and outside normal business hours when required.
