Description

  • Own Block’s global sanctions compliance program end-to-end across fiat and digital asset products.
  • Develop and maintain the company’s sanctions policies, standards, and multi-year strategy.
  • Define the sanctions risk framework and oversee sanctions control design across products.
  • Build, lead, and scale a sanctions compliance team and develop future leaders.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Detections, and Legal to embed sanctions controls into systems and architecture.
  • Serve as the senior external point of contact for sanctions matters with regulators and agencies.
  • Lead voluntary self-disclosures, regulatory reporting, subpoenas, and responses to escalated sanctions issues.
  • Evaluate and improve sanctions screening infrastructure, including vendors, alert thresholds, and tooling.
  • Coordinate oversight of execution for sanctions controls across real-time payments, P2P transfers, Bitcoin, merchant acquiring, and BNPL.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of sanctions compliance experience.
  • Experience across both a major financial institution and a high-growth fintech or payments company is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Deep, current knowledge of OFAC, UN, EU, and OFSI sanctions regimes.
  • Experience with virtual assets, DeFi, and blockchain-based value transfer.
  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing sanctions or financial crimes teams.
  • Hands-on experience designing or overhauling sanctions screening programs at scale.
  • Experience with vendor selection, threshold calibration, false positive reduction, and integration with transaction infrastructure.
  • Experience representing compliance in regulatory exams, enforcement discussions, and voluntary self-disclosures.
  • Experience with ML-assisted screening tools and AI-enabled solutions.
  • CAMS, CGSS, or equivalent certification preferred.
