Description

  • Lead architecture and design for complex Datastore systems and projects.
  • Design and scale PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-based event pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Own pipelines that deliver dataset snapshots to the data warehouse.
  • Collaborate with product, scientific, clinical, platform, application, and support teams to translate requirements into integrations and services.
  • Debug and profile complex problems across system boundaries, improving structure, testing, tooling, and maintainability.
  • Write RFCs, lead technical discovery, and align stakeholders on implementation decisions.
  • Plan individual and team work while balancing delivery speed, generalizability, technical debt, and stakeholder needs.
  • Mentor engineers, provide actionable feedback, and support technical leadership.
  • Improve operational reliability and usability through documentation, tools, and dashboards.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years working with data platforms or backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
  • Advanced expertise in data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
  • Strong SQL skills and production experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, indexes, query tuning, and query plans.
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka or equivalent event-processing systems such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
  • Proficiency in Julia or Python; Julia experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript/JavaScript, including Node.js.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized services, with familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform and/or Helm.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and improving engineering practices, tooling, testing, or documentation.
  • Strong collaboration, written and verbal communication, and ability to work effectively in remote or hybrid teams.
  • Experience with or interest in production use of LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools and appropriate guardrails.
