Description

  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to guide architecture and solution design for the Beacon Datastore.
  • Influence architectural standards across Platform teams.
  • Implement features that embody best practices for data integrity, design soundness, and maintainability.
  • Coach team members and stakeholders on design patterns and technical approaches.
  • Draft RFCs to lead complex feature discovery and technical design phases.
  • Solicit, incorporate, and align input from collaborators on key technical decisions.
  • Help shape architectural direction and standards across platform and scientific teams.
  • Support scalable data models, event-driven pipelines, and engineering best practices for the platform.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of backend development experience, including significant experience in data engineering, data platforms, or data-centric infrastructure.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and production experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency with data streaming and event processing tools such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
  • Strong proficiency in a modern general-purpose programming language.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to learn the Datastore stack, including SQL, TypeScript, and Julia, quickly.
  • Experience with or interest in using LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools in a production setting, with sound judgment about necessary guardrails.
  • Experience deploying and operating services in containerized environments, with familiarity in Kubernetes and IaC tools such as Terraform and/or Helm.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across disciplines in remote-friendly environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong fundamentals and interest in data infrastructure for health are valued; not every qualification is required.

  • Salary range of $190,000–$210,000.
