Description

  • Deploy, configure, and manage container orchestration platforms (AWS ECS or OpenShift) in production federal environments.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied container images for security vulnerabilities, compliance gaps, and operational readiness.
  • Implement container hardening strategies using CIS benchmarks, DSTIG STIGs, and federal security baselines.
  • Configure orchestration artifacts and runtimes, including task/service definitions (ECS) or deployments/operators (OpenShift), and manage container networking (service discovery, ingress/egress controls, inter-container communication).
  • Manage container lifecycle operations including image versioning, updates, patching, rollback procedures, and runtime controls (isolation, resource limits, security contexts).
  • Perform container image scanning with tools such as Prisma Cloud, Aqua, Twistlock, or AWS ECR scanning and remediate identified vulnerabilities.
  • Implement secrets management (AWS Secrets Manager or HashiCorp Vault), apply least-privilege to IAM roles/service accounts, and establish image signing and verification workflows.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation), build automated deployment pipelines, and implement GitOps workflows and version-controlled infrastructure patterns to scale to 130+ system instances.
  • Design and implement high-availability and disaster recovery solutions (multi-AZ deployments, backups for persistent data), capacity planning and scaling strategies, and zero-downtime deployment approaches (blue-green, rolling updates).
  • Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, SOPs, architecture diagrams, configuration baselines, drift detection mechanisms, and knowledge transfer materials to support RMF/ATO assessments and scaling of operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related technical field (relevant certifications and experience may substitute for education).
  • 5-7 years of experience in systems engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with container platforms (ECS, OpenShift, or Kubernetes) in production environments.
  • 2+ years of experience working with AWS infrastructure and services.
  • Experience with container hardening, security scanning, vulnerability remediation, and applying federal security baselines (CIS, STIGs).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a systematic problem-solving approach, attention to detail, and a security-first mindset.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for documentation and cross-team collaboration, and ability to manage multiple concurrent infrastructure workstreams independently.
  • Preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift, or Docker Certified Associate.
  • Preferred: experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, AWS App Mesh), container vulnerability management platforms (Prisma, Aqua, Twistlock), immutable infrastructure, GitOps methodologies, and federal/DoD contracting environments.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination; occasional travel (<10%) may be required.
