Description

  • Design, build, and maintain end-to-end data ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, and analytics pipelines.
  • Ingest data from FHIR APIs, the CDW, and other VA sources and manage source integrations.
  • Normalize, deduplicate, and reconcile patient and medication data across sources.
  • Develop transformation pipelines and prepare inputs for risk scoring and analytics workflows.
  • Support both batch and near-real-time (streaming) processing patterns and deployments.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, traceability, and reproducibility across datasets.
  • Implement and maintain data versioning, lineage, and validation to support auditability and reproducibility.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Python (primary) and advanced SQL skills.
  • Experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing; familiarity with AWS EMR and Databricks preferred.
  • Knowledge of ETL/ELT design including pipeline orchestration, incremental vs full loads, and data validation.
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs including JSON parsing, pagination, and OAuth2 authentication.
  • Familiarity with FHIR data models and resources (e.g., Patient, MedicationRequest, Observation).
  • Data modeling experience for relational and semi-structured schemas and data quality techniques (deduplication, reconciliation, anomaly detection).
  • Understanding of streaming vs batch processing tradeoffs and implementation patterns.
  • Experience with storage technologies such as S3, relational databases, and basic NoSQL concepts.
  • Performance optimization experience (partitioning, parallelization, query tuning) and data version control/lineage practices.
  • U.S. citizenship (U.S. work authorization required) and ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability determination; occasional travel (<10%) and remote work capability.
