Description

  • Evaluate design concepts, wireframes, prototypes, and coded solutions for accessibility issues against Section 508, WCAG 2.1 A/AA, and agency standards.
  • Conduct manual and automated accessibility testing throughout the software development lifecycle, including code review and sprint-based validation.
  • Document accessibility issues, fixes, severity, WCAG mappings, and remediation guidance in program tracking systems such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Author Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) and Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) prior to major releases.
  • Prepare accessibility review notes, annotated design files, issue summaries, and conformance evaluation reports as program deliverables.
  • Collaborate with accessibility leads, federal accessibility staff, product owners, UX designers, developers, and IT security staff to resolve accessibility barriers early.
  • Support remediation of accessibility issues identified in the backlog and verify accessible code against the Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan.
  • Participate in the User-Centered Design process to ensure accessibility is embedded from discovery through validation.
  • Take part in SAFe Agile ceremonies and help plan and estimate accessibility work within sprint workflows.
  • Contribute to design system governance by reviewing components, patterns, and tokens for WCAG compliance before approval.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a digital accessibility specialist evaluating web applications throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent additional experience.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating web applications against WCAG 2.1 A and AA, Section 508 (36 C.F.R. 1194.1), and equivalent federal accessibility standards.
  • Hands-on proficiency with screen reader testing using JAWS and NVDA.
  • Experience with accessibility tools including aXe, pa11y, ANDI, and Color Contrast Analyzer.
  • Experience authoring Accessibility Conformance Reports (ACRs) and/or Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs).
  • Experience evaluating Figma design artifacts such as wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and design system components for accessibility conformance.
  • Experience documenting issues, fixes, and test evidence in Jira and Confluence, with WCAG success criteria mapping and remediation guidance.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and integrating accessibility work into sprint cadence.
  • Working knowledge of the User-Centered Design process across Discover, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Validate phases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for status updates, collaboration, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Preferred: experience supporting federal government clients.
  • Preferred: DHS Trusted Tester certification and experience with the Trusted Tester conformance test process.
  • Preferred: IAAP certification such as CPACC, WAS, or CPWA.
  • Preferred: experience working in SAFe environments with multiple synchronized Scrum teams and PI planning.
  • Preferred: experience contributing accessibility guidance to a shared enterprise design system.
  • Preferred: experience supporting user research with assistive technology users.
  • Preferred: experience evaluating Angular applications and responsive design implementations.
  • Preferred: familiarity with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and automated accessibility scans integrated into continuous integration workflows.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination.
