Description

  • Own the end-to-end design of Apollo’s safe compute architecture, including selection of core processing elements and system redundancy.
  • Lead the design and validation of custom carrier boards for high-performance compute modules such as NVIDIA Jetson.
  • Manage power delivery, thermal dissipation, and high-speed signal integrity for complex hardware interfaces.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and design for reliability for compute modules operating in high-vibration, dynamic environments.
  • Define the electrical architecture for the perception stack, including LiDAR, depth cameras, IMUs, and tactile sensors.
  • Architect high-bandwidth sensor pipelines and synchronization protocols to support sensor fusion and low-latency data delivery.
  • Design hardware-level redundancy, fail-safe mechanisms, and built-in tests to meet functional safety requirements.
  • Implement robust hardware diagnostics to monitor the health of the compute and sensing systems in real time.
  • Define the long-term technical roadmap for compute and sensing hardware and evaluate emerging technologies.
  • Serve as a technical authority in cross-functional design reviews and mentor electrical and embedded engineers.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in high-performance hardware design, ideally in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or aerospace.
  • Proven track record of designing custom carrier boards for NVIDIA Jetson or similar high-end compute modules.
  • Mastery of high-speed digital design, including PCIe, DDR4/5, GMSL, and 10GbE.
  • Experience integrating multi-sensor suites with precise hardware-level time synchronization.
  • Hands-on experience with functional safety architecture such as ISO 26262 or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar PCB design tools.
  • Experience with hardware simulation tools such as SPICE, Ansys, or HyperLynx.
  • Ability to work in a role with prolonged desk/computer work and occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds.
  • Vision sufficient to read printed materials and computer screens, with hearing and speech needed to communicate.
