Description

  • Provide legal oversight for proposals, procurement, contract structures, and data rights issues for government deals.
  • Support the Business Development, Proposal, and Engineering teams in capturing new contracts and expanding existing ones.
  • Develop legal and business strategies for new business opportunities and follow-on contracts.
  • Manage relationships with government procurement office representatives and other agency stakeholders.
  • Oversee the acquisitions lifecycle, including evaluating major proposals, monitoring large contracts, and resolving performance issues.
  • Lead or assist in negotiations and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Handle broader legal matters including license and services agreements, bid protests, litigation, intellectual property, compliance, and employment issues.
  • Represent the legal team in dealings with outside counsel, vendors, engineers, executives, customers, and regulators.
  • Take ownership of complex, cross-functional legal matters in a fast-growing environment.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in U.S. government contracts matters, preferably at a law firm or in-house at a government contractor.
  • Strong understanding of the government procurement process, including contract vehicles and types, non-traditional and CAS coverage, software acquisition approaches, and data rights issues.
  • Ability to own multiple projects end-to-end and exercise judgment and initiative in fast-moving matters.
  • Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and contribute across a broad startup legal function, including unfamiliar topics as needed.
  • Licensed to practice law in California, Washington, DC, or Georgia.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
  • Pre-law school professional experience is preferred.
  • Combination of law firm, in-house, or government experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with the government is preferred.
  • Experience with engineering, software, or other technology is preferred.
  • Interest in defense acquisitions law and policy is preferred.
  • Ability and grit to operate independently within a rapidly evolving company is preferred.
  • Experience with FMS and/or DCS procurement and contracting processes is preferred.
  • Active U.S. Secret security clearance is preferred and must be maintainable if held.
