Description

  • Design and maintain mission-critical brokerage systems and services.
  • Develop and improve middle- and back-office systems, including gRPC microservices, internal React UIs, and vendor integrations.
  • Work with core teams to extend the platform for multiple languages, currencies, and markets.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders across regions to align on global initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot incidents and bugs to protect system integrity and performance.
  • Serve as operational reliability and engineering lead during regional business hours.
  • Act as incident commander and support 24x7 stability.
  • Support regional recruitment initiatives and mentor engineers on practices and principles.
  • Contribute to a scalable foundation for Alpaca’s international growth.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Go or similar backend languages.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
  • Strong communication skills for working with global teams, regulators, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead incident response and troubleshoot issues with authority.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals and software architecture experience.
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strategic thinking and ability to translate technical concepts into business strategy.
  • Experience with event-driven design.
  • Experience with AI tooling such as Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex (nice to have).
  • Experience in a startup or fast-growing technology company (nice to have).
  • Experience with domain-driven design (nice to have).
  • Experience working with global teams (nice to have).
  • Experience in financial services, online trading platforms, brokerage systems, or fintech (nice to have).
  • Experience designing complex financial systems, preferably including double-entry accounting (nice to have).
  • Understanding of transaction processing, trade lifecycle management, and settlement processes (nice to have).
  • Experience with order management, execution, market data processing, and real-time trade processing (nice to have).
  • Experience building scalable, high-availability financial applications that handle multi-currency transactions (nice to have).
  • Experience with financial APIs, market data integrations, and trade settlement processes (nice to have).
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements in financial markets (nice to have).
