Description

  • Own and deliver quarterly team goals while leading engineers through ambiguous, open-ended work.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, technical constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Identify project, process, technology, and business issues and lead efforts to resolve them.
  • Support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues, and participating in on-call and keep-the-lights-on work.
  • Set and improve code review and design standards, and advocate for them through writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
  • Build and maintain reliable, scalable compute infrastructure for business-critical batch workloads.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the product development lifecycle to deliver backend and infrastructure solutions.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, or similar languages.
  • Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building and managing workflow orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, or Luigi.
  • Experience scaling Spark or Flink for very large datasets on Kubernetes, or working knowledge of doing so.
  • Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with simple, extensible designs.
  • Ability to make significant changes in a large codebase and use tools and practices to do so safely.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and willingness to proactively seek feedback.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Remote candidates must reside in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
