Description

  • Design, build, and test features across backend and frontend systems.
  • Participate in design discussions, implementation work, code reviews, and testing.
  • Develop and maintain substantial TypeScript and Node.js services in production.
  • Design and evolve microservice boundaries, service contracts, and error handling across service calls.
  • Work with Kafka or comparable event streaming systems in a production environment.
  • Design PostgreSQL schemas and support transactions, indexing, and migration strategy.
  • Operate services in AWS and Kubernetes-based environments such as EKS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM.
  • Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests with appropriate coverage and test design strategies.
  • Create clear design documents, pull request descriptions, and test cases.
  • Collaborate across system boundaries and debug issues that span application code and infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Strong TypeScript and Node.js engineering experience, with production experience building and maintaining substantial services.
  • Microservices design experience, including service boundaries, contract evolution, cross-service error handling, and observability.
  • Production experience with Kafka or a comparable event streaming platform, including topic design, partitioning, consumer groups, idempotency, and ordering guarantees.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL schema design, transactions, indexing, and migration strategy.
  • Comfort operating services in AWS or equivalent cloud environments with Kubernetes.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EKS, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM, or similar tooling.
  • Experience using unit test frameworks such as Jest or Vitest.
  • Hands-on end-to-end testing experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar tools.
  • Ability to design test coverage from acceptance criteria using unit, integration, and end-to-end tests in sensible proportions.
  • Strong written communication skills for design documents, PR descriptions, and test cases.
  • Experience working across integration boundaries and debugging issues that span multiple systems.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, including asking clarifying questions and surfacing assumptions.
  • Bonus: specific experience with Confluent.
  • Nice to have: experience in healthcare, LIMS, or FDA-regulated software environments.
  • Nice to have: direct experience with Confluent, Redox, or EHR integration work.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama.
  • Nice to have: hands-on experience with modern AI tools such as Claude or Cursor.
