Description

  • Create working prototypes and concepts that establish the next-generation sports app vision.
  • Own strategic design visioning with cross-functional leaders and drive alignment on key product decisions.
  • Bring data-informed design perspectives to product planning, business priorities, and success metrics.
  • Partner with the Chief Product Officer, VP of Engineering, and VP of Data to influence product direction.
  • Provide hands-on craft leadership by reviewing flows, working in Figma, and prototyping with the team.
  • Define an AI-native approach to design tools, workflows, and organizational structure.
  • Build, coach, and manage a design organization of approximately 10 people with clear accountability.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, data, marketing, commercial, and other leadership teams.

Requirements

  • Deep passion for sports and experience using The Athletic’s product.
  • Senior design leadership experience with recent, personally executed design work.
  • Experience leading a major transformation of design practices, ideally using AI tools and workflows.
  • Experience shipping consumer products at scale.
  • Strong opinions about sports or comparable habit-forming consumer products, supported by clear reasoning.
  • Ability to influence product and engineering leaders with well-argued perspectives.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous environments.
  • Experience founding or running a company or side project preferred.
  • Ability to work remotely from the United States or Canada and travel regularly.
