Description

  • Build and maintain demos, sample apps, reference architectures, tutorials, and technical tools for developers.
  • Create developer-focused technical content such as blog posts, docs, videos, talks, workshops, livestreams, and conference sessions.
  • Represent Tailscale at conferences, meetups, community events, and other developer-facing conversations.
  • Work with engineering, product, marketing, support, and community teams to identify developer friction and improve product experiences.
  • Help developers understand and adopt Tailscale’s core connectivity product and newer areas such as secure AI access, privileged access management, identity, infrastructure security, and developer tooling.
  • Contribute to open source projects, examples, and integrations where appropriate.
  • Participate in public technical discussions through GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social channels, and other feedback loops.
  • Define and improve what great developer experience looks like from first touch through production usage.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering background with experience building, debugging, and shipping real projects.
  • Ability to write clear code samples, demos, tutorials, and other technical content for developers.
  • Deep curiosity about systems, especially networking, infrastructure, security, identity, cloud, open source, or developer tooling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for explaining complex technical ideas clearly.
  • Experience speaking to technical audiences through conferences, meetups, livestreams, workshops, podcasts, videos, or internal forums.
  • Comfort working publicly via GitHub issues, pull requests, community forums, social channels, and open source projects.
  • Strong developer empathy, emotional intelligence, and product sense.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, marketing, support, community, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating independently, prioritizing high-impact work, and managing multiple deadlines.
  • Comfort presenting on stage and on camera, and willingness to travel for events and community moments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals gained through education, professional experience, open source work, self-directed learning, or personal projects.
  • A track record of building and explaining technical systems, including production software, developer tools, infrastructure projects, open source contributions, homelab experiments, or local AI setups.
  • Ability to discuss technical tradeoffs in detail, including what was built, why it was built, what broke, and what was learned.
  • Experience with Go, networking, VPNs, WireGuard, identity, access controls, infrastructure automation, or security products (preferred).
  • Experience building developer education programs, sample apps, workshops, technical video content, or conference talks (preferred).
  • A visible history of technical writing, talks, demos, open source contributions, or community work (preferred).
  • Experience with homelabs, self-hosting, local AI models, infrastructure experiments, or similar hands-on projects (preferred).
  • Familiarity with secure AI access, privileged access management, zero trust, or modern infrastructure security patterns (preferred).
  • Familiarity with open source contribution workflows and public technical collaboration (preferred).
