Description

  • Contribute to designing, building, evaluating, shipping, and improving Sword’s products through hands-on AI/ML development.
  • Develop and maintain data processing pipelines needed to build and evaluate models.
  • Collaborate with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to define and implement AI/ML-powered features for internal and external users.
  • Share knowledge and experience on how to build and operate machine learning systems.
  • Help grow the AI/ML function by defining and promoting best practices.
  • Identify and lead initiatives to add AI/ML capabilities to Sword’s products while balancing uncertainty and time-to-value tradeoffs.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring to colleagues.
  • Work across the full AI stack, including prompt engineering, RAG, model fine-tuning, and agentic workflows.
  • Support end-to-end AI treatment management systems and ongoing patient-facing AI care experiences.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional experience in Machine Learning.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and maintaining production machine learning systems.
  • Strong experience with SQL and Python, plus production software development experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Python data stack, including numpy, pandas, matplotlib, and scikit-learn.
  • Experience leading and owning complex, ambiguous projects from ideation through completion and maintenance.
  • Experience providing technical oversight and mentoring colleagues.
  • Ability to learn quickly and dive deep into new problems and fields.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize and solve issues according to the team’s direction and goals.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and wearing different hats (preferred).
  • Experience building data processing pipelines (preferred).
  • Experience shipping applications using LLMs and Generative AI (preferred).
  • Experience using cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS (preferred).
  • Must be based in Portugal and possess a valid EU visa.
  • No relocation assistance is offered.
