Description

  • Own risk tracking for a Starship vehicle or component (Starship, Super Heavy booster, launch pad, engine) and manage that item's risk throughout testing and flight.
  • Support and provide feedback in technical reviews, including vehicle state machine (software), joint operations (ground and vehicle), and CONOPs reviews.
  • Organize and run flight readiness reviews and flight data reviews; drive actions and findings to completion using risk, mission workflow, and change as tools.
  • Provide real-time on-console support during tests and flights as the authority for vehicle risk, coordinating with leadership and executives to resolve technical risks.
  • Clearly communicate technical risks and status to the executive leadership team.
  • Support anomaly investigations using tools such as fault trees, fishbones, and 5 whys, and work to resolve anomalies on the day of test or launch.
  • Influence and drive implementation of processes and tools (risk, change, mission workflow) to balance program needs.
  • Run projects or tool improvements to help the Starship program better manage and understand technical risk.
  • Support regulatory and customer reviews as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 5+ years of engineering problem solving in design, analysis, or test of systems; 8+ years in aerospace at large assembly/system level preferred.
  • Experience with anomaly resolution and documentation of anomaly reports and lessons learned databases.
  • Experience with engineering risk management, configuration, and change management.
  • SQL and/or Python experience and high proficiency with basic computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, email).
  • On-console test experience or support of launch and/or large-scale test operations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work remotely and clearly communicate weekly progress and roadblocks.
  • Self-starter who is willing to continuously learn new skills to drive Starship hardware development and testing.
  • Willingness to travel to other SpaceX sites and to work extended hours and weekends as needed based on test and launch schedules.
  • ITAR requirement: must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder), Refugee, Asylee, or be eligible to obtain required Department of State authorizations.
