Description

  • Travel up to 75% of the time to perform visual and dimensional inspections at supplier sites.
  • Inspect manufactured parts, assemblies, sub-assemblies, purchased mechanical parts, components, materials, and flight hardware for conformance to drawings, purchase orders, industry standards, and SpaceX specifications.
  • Select and use standard gauges and other metrology tools to verify feature tolerances and quality.
  • Program and set up articulating arm systems and CMMs to perform required inspections.
  • Review documentation and verify certifications, specifications, and conformance records.
  • Document and report any non-conformance found at suppliers.
  • Support the development of inspection plans at supplier sites.
  • Support the supplier corrective action process and verify corrective actions are implemented.
  • Provide support to internal and external stakeholders on inspection requirements and processes.
  • Collaborate with teams, lead projects, and drive continuous improvement at SpaceX and supplier locations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of precision mechanical inspection experience.
  • 3+ years of CMM programming, CMM operations, or Faro Arm experience.
  • Experience in aerospace precision inspection (preferred).
  • Experience working within quality management systems such as AS9100 and ISO 9001 (preferred).
  • CMM programming experience with PC-DMIS software (preferred).
  • Romer Arm experience with Verisurf software (preferred).
  • Basic understanding of electronics inspection and propulsion valve operation (preferred).
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel (preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications using ASME Y14.5 and GD&T (preferred).
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted and perform frequent standing, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, carrying, pulling, and pushing.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the work week and work overtime, long hours, weekends, and occasional overnight trips as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required for frequent travel around the Chicago area.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be able to obtain required authorization.

  • Hourly pay range of $30.00-$38.00 for Level 1, $34.00-$43.00 for Level 2, and $38.00-$48.00 for Level 3.
