Description

  • Travel up to 75% of the time to perform visual and dimensional inspections at supplier sites.
  • Select and use standard gauges and other metrology tools to verify quality and feature tolerances.
  • Perform complex inspections on purchased mechanical parts, components, assemblies, and materials.
  • Review documentation and verify certifications, specifications, and conformance to design requirements.
  • Inspect flight hardware at suppliers according to engineering drawings, purchase orders, industry standards, and SpaceX specifications.
  • Document and communicate non-conformances and ensure parts meet SpaceX specifications and standards.
  • Support the development of inspection plans at supplier sites.
  • Support supplier corrective action activities, including verification of corrective action implementation.
  • Provide support to internal and external stakeholders on SpaceX requirements and inspection processes.
  • Program and set up articulating arm and CMM equipment to perform required inspections.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or an equivalency certificate.
  • 3+ years of precision mechanical inspection experience.
  • 3+ years of CMM programming, CMM operations, or Faro Arm experience.
  • Experience with aerospace precision inspection (preferred).
  • Experience working within quality management systems such as AS9100 and ISO 9001 (preferred).
  • CMM programming experience with PC-DMIS software (preferred).
  • Romer Arm experience with Verisurf software (preferred).
  • Basic understanding of electronics inspection and propulsion valve operation (preferred).
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel (preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications using ASME Y14.5 GD&T (preferred).
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted and perform standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying.
  • Ability to travel up to 75% of the work week, including occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to work overtime, long hours, and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required for frequent travel to suppliers in the Chicago area.
  • Must meet ITAR requirements as a U.S. citizen/national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. Department of State authorization.

  • Hourly pay range of $30.00 - $48.00 depending on level: Source Inspector/Level 1 ($30.00 - $38.00), Level 2 ($34.00 - $43.00), and Level 3 ($38.00 - $48.00).
