Description

  • Recruit, onboard, and develop a diverse team of engineers, including providing regular feedback and career growth plans.
  • Own the execution roadmap for the team and drive the agile process to ship high-quality software predictably.
  • Provide architectural oversight and lead design reviews while balancing feature development and technical debt.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers and Designers to define team vision and translate business goals into technical milestones.
  • Champion a "you build it, you run it" culture by owning uptime, security, and observability for production systems.
  • Contribute to engineering leadership efforts by refining hiring practices, engineering standards, and organizational culture.
  • Navigate ambiguity and manage complex dependencies across the organization to keep work moving forward.
  • Ensure the team builds scalable, bank-grade systems that support a tech-first product experience.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of direct software engineering management experience in a fast-paced environment, including managing Senior and Staff-level contributors.
  • 8+ years of total software engineering experience with strong backend microservices and modern frontend framework knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture on AWS, and data consistency in high-concurrency environments.
  • Proven experience leading teams that build and scale successful user-facing products.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders and influence across departments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into products is preferred.
  • Experience in FinTech or other highly regulated industries with compliance and auditability requirements is preferred.
  • Experience leading teams through organizational scaling or significant architectural migrations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD best practices, automated testing strategies, and containerization is preferred.
  • A passion for financial literacy and helping members achieve financial independence is preferred.
  • Ability to work within SoFi’s remote-work restrictions, with Hawaii and Alaska excluded.
