Description

  • Design hand-drawn and digitally composited 2D effects that enhance character performance and the cinematic quality of scenes.
  • Collaborate with the Production Designer, show leadership, and Visual Development artists to develop magical effects.
  • Brainstorm and establish the visual language for different styles of magic across the film.
  • Maintain consistency in effects style, timing, weight, physics, and elemental performance across sequences.
  • Apply core animation principles to create fluid motion and clear, readable silhouettes.
  • Troubleshoot technical and creative effects challenges within pipeline constraints.
  • Create additional elemental effects such as water, fire, smoke, and debris as needed.

Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience in 2D animation or visual development with a focus on effects.
  • Traditional 2D animation background.
  • Proficiency in animation/effects software such as Photoshop, Nuke, After Effects, Toon Boom Harmony, TVPaint, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of timing, weight, and physics as applied to effects animation.
  • Ability to take direction and iterate quickly.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to conceptualize ideas and bring them to life.
  • Demo reel or portfolio required, showing a range of 2D effects work.
  • Effects reels that demonstrate timing, physics, and integration with character performance are strongly preferred.
  • Must be located in California, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, the United Kingdom, or Spain.

Benefits

  • Compensation range of $115,000-$140,000 annually for Los Angeles, CA or the Tri-State Area.
  • Base salary only; total compensation may also include bonus and benefits.
  • Location-based pay adjustment depending on candidate location, qualifications, experience, and expertise.
