Description

  • Lead the delivery, integration, and operations support for a science instrument suite.
  • Serve as the responsible engineer for partner-delivered instruments across build, testing, integration, commissioning, and in-space operations.
  • Ensure instruments meet or exceed the required science capability and mission objectives.
  • Manage technical and programmatic risk proactively and make decisions under uncertainty.
  • Coordinate with partners and multiple stakeholders to keep the instrument progressing smoothly through mission phases.
  • Advocate for engineering system designs that enable strong science return on current and future missions.
  • Support environmental testing, spacecraft integration, commissioning, and early mission operations.
  • Work as part of a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team focused on mission success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in planetary science, engineering, physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in science research.
  • 3+ years of experience working on a spacecraft payload through multiple phases, such as formulation, build, testing, integration, on-spacecraft testing, commissioning, or operations.
  • Familiarity with Earth and planetary science missions and instrument constraints, including power, mass, thermal, data rate, and radiation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relentless curiosity and a desire to understand and optimize systems.
  • Experience with planetary science instruments (preferred).
  • Occasional travel to partner institutions, test facilities, and mission integration sites, less than 10% of the time.
  • Availability for shift work and on-call support during launch, commissioning, and early operations.
