Description

  • Extend and support the existing Perl-based payment gateway while developing Python microservices.
  • Architect and implement scalable distributed services for high-load production environments.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and payment services, including robust error handling.
  • Lead code reviews, promote engineering best practices, and identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines and AWS-based deployments.
  • Apply product-focused thinking to understand business logic and user impact.
  • Troubleshoot complex distributed-system production issues and maintain zero-downtime operations.
  • Own features from design through production and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience with deep Python expertise; FastAPI and AsyncIO preferred.
  • Experience building and scaling microservices and high-throughput systems, preferably in payments, trading, or real-time processing.
  • Strong understanding of third-party API integrations, webhooks, callbacks, idempotency, and retry policies.
  • Strong Docker/containerization experience and knowledge of AWS, including Lambda, SQS/SNS, and cloud networking.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Willingness to learn and work with Perl production code; Perl experience is a major advantage.
  • Strong engineering judgment, clean coding practices, and the ability to explain technical decisions.
  • Experience owning features end-to-end and mentoring engineers.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Willingness to work remotely from Portugal or Poland under a contractor arrangement.
