Description

  • Architect, install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances across complex Windows server environments.
  • Lead application performance engineering by analyzing execution plans, identifying inefficient queries, and partnering with developers on code and schema optimization.
  • Monitor database and application performance using Extended Events, DMVs, Wait Statistics, Query Store, and third-party monitoring tools.
  • Design, implement, test, and validate backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies to meet RTO/RPO targets.
  • Maintain Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, and other HA/DR solutions across production and DR environments.
  • Design and govern database security controls, including role-based access, auditing, and encryption.
  • Own capacity planning and storage forecasting to ensure platforms scale with demand.
  • Review and approve database changes, including schema migrations, deployment scripts, and ORM-generated queries before production release.
  • Automate routine DBA tasks such as index maintenance, integrity checks, and job monitoring using PowerShell and SQL Agent.
  • Manage patching and upgrades through formal change management and perform pre- and post-upgrade validation.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level DBAs and contribute to documentation, knowledge bases, and runbooks.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for Sev 1 incidents and lead post-incident reviews.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in large-scale, mission-critical production environments.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server 2019 and 2025 on Windows Server 2019 and 2022.
  • Advanced T-SQL skills, including query optimization, execution plan analysis, index design, partitioning, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Deep experience with application performance tuning, including ORM anti-patterns, N+1 queries, lock contention, and blocking chains.
  • Proven experience architecting and supporting Always On Availability Groups, WSFC, and disaster recovery failover in enterprise environments.
  • Strong command of Wait Statistics, DMVs, Extended Events, and Query Store for root-cause diagnosis.
  • Solid experience with point-in-time restores, high-availability failover, disaster recovery planning, and recovery testing.
  • Windows Server administration experience and knowledge of Active Directory and Kerberos authentication for SQL Server.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and mentor junior team members.
  • Familiarity with ITIL change, incident, and problem management processes.
  • DP-300 (Azure Database Administrator Associate) or legacy MCSE Data Management & Analytics certification preferred.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database or SQL Server on Azure VMs in hybrid configurations preferred.
  • Exposure to APM tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or New Relic preferred.
  • Proficiency with monitoring platforms such as Redgate SQL Monitor, SolarWinds DPA, SentryOne, or equivalent preferred.
  • PowerShell scripting experience for DBA automation, including dbatools, preferred.
  • Experience with SSIS in a data warehousing or reporting context preferred.
  • Knowledge of data governance and compliance frameworks such as GDPR, ISO 27001, or SOC 2 preferred.
  • Exposure to DevOps CI/CD database deployment tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, or Redgate Deployment Manager preferred.
