Description

  • Frame research problems from product and mission gaps and define productization criteria.
  • Survey existing research and build hypothesis-driven prototypes at appropriate fidelity.
  • Design and run rigorous experiments, including baselines, ablations, held-out evaluations, and error analysis.
  • Build and maintain datasets and evaluation harnesses, including known failure cases.
  • Communicate results, including negative findings, and recommend whether to continue, pivot, or stop.
  • Transition validated research into production with product engineers and support the handoff.
  • Contribute through publications, open-source releases, academic collaborations, and technology recommendations.
  • Travel up to 20% for conferences, customer engagement, and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of applied research or research-engineering experience, or an M.S./Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field with equivalent applied work.
  • Strong Python engineering skills and ability to produce maintainable, reusable research code.
  • Experience designing and running defensible experiments that lead to actionable conclusions.
  • Depth in agentic AI, knowledge representation, dynamic ontologies, autonomous analysis, or high-performance analytics.
  • Working knowledge of modern LLM and retrieval methods and their practical limitations.
  • Clear technical writing for both engineers and non-specialist stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Publication record, open-source contributions, or academic collaborations in a relevant area (preferred).
  • Experience moving research results into production; knowledge graphs, ontology engineering, reasoning systems, information extraction, agent architectures, model evaluation, or performance engineering (preferred).
  • Familiarity with OSINT, intelligence, or investigative research workflows (preferred).
