Description

  • Lead, coach, hire, and develop a team of software and research engineers.
  • Own end-to-end delivery commitments, including scope, sequencing, cycle planning, status, and risk management.
  • Set the research-to-product direction with product management and determine when research results warrant roadmap investment.
  • Enforce AI product principles for accuracy, trustworthiness, security, data sovereignty, explainability, performance, and rapid iteration.
  • Establish engineering practices for design and code review, testing, observability, on-call support, and incident follow-through.
  • Guide architecture for systems deployed from a single codebase across cloud, on-premises, and edge environments.
  • Resolve cross-team dependencies, interface contracts, and competing priorities with product teams.
  • Travel up to 20% for customer engagement, integration support, and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 2+ years managing engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Track record of delivering meaningful product capabilities on committed timelines.
  • Technical depth in distributed systems, backend services, or AI and data platforms sufficient to lead design reviews.
  • Experience developing engineers through leveling, performance conversations, hiring, and career development.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Experience managing teams building agentic AI, LLM-backed products, or knowledge-representation and retrieval systems (preferred).
  • Experience partnering with applied research and evaluating readiness for productization (preferred).
  • Experience with constrained on-premises, disconnected, or edge deployments; Docker and Kubernetes; government, national security, regulated, or high-performance data-intensive environments (preferred).
