Description

  • Design and implement scalable data architecture for targeting, engagement, and voter datasets.
  • Shape pipelines and integrations for the RCT platform, including APIs, replication layers, federation layers, and experiment randomization.
  • Extend the data platform and orchestration layer to improve cost, runtime, and reliability during election periods.
  • Lead cross-functional technical projects from scoping through delivery to measurable milestones.
  • Maintain foundational datasets, including polling images and precinct cross-matching data.
  • Build and support AI tooling that speeds up internal workflows, including QC agents and evaluation systems.
  • Test, validate, and review code to maintain high quality across the team.
  • Document systems clearly for teammates, stakeholders, and non-technical collaborators.
  • Rotate through on-call and rapid-response duties, including evenings and weekends during high-stakes periods.

Requirements

  • Passion for progressive politics and a commitment to stopping fascism and building progressive power.
  • 3–6+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production data pipelines and integrations.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Hands-on experience with a modern data stack, including cloud data warehouses such as BigQuery, dbt, and an orchestrator such as Dagster or Airflow.
  • Experience leading technical work across multiple systems or teams and scoping ambiguous problems end to end.
  • Strong judgment about when to refactor versus ship pragmatically, and how to improve systems over time.
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to explain complex systems to non-engineers.
  • Comfort operating on a political calendar and in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Nice to have: experience in the progressive, political, advocacy, or nonprofit sector, including familiarity with c3/c4/PAC boundaries and political data sensitivities.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with election results, voter file data, campaign organizing tools, and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Nice to have: experience with on-call rotations and mentoring less-experienced engineers.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.

  • Transparent salary structure with a full-year equivalent salary of $90,000–$99,000 for Data Engineer (Level 3) or $110,000–$119,000 for Senior Data Engineer (Level 5), plus a cost-of-living salary adjustment.
