Description

  • Lead and develop a motion planning team, including ownership of planning algorithms and constraint generation.
  • Provide technical direction on architectural strategy, resource allocation, operational execution, and technical debt management.
  • Design, prototype, test, deploy, and improve a robust planner with safety as a core priority.
  • Use metrics to evaluate and improve technical components and planning methods.
  • Advance motion planning approaches to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Mentor team members through technical and professional feedback while fostering an inclusive, collaborative environment.
  • Generate innovative ideas, define team vision, and consider the broader robotaxi system.
  • Implement, review, and validate algorithms and code using rigorous engineering methods.
  • Partner with project managers to build roadmaps and execute plans on schedule.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Localization, Perception, Prediction, Controls, ML Products, and Systems Engineering.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience managing a development team and supporting career growth and productivity.
  • Master's or PhD in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience delivering a production-quality motion planner in a leadership role.
  • Advanced proficiency in search algorithms.
  • Experience developing motion planning solutions with machine learning.
  • Strong C++ software development experience.
  • Experience with Linux and Python, with additional knowledge of SQL.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of motion planning under uncertainty and interaction with dynamic agents and environments.
  • Knowledge of robotics algorithms in localization, perception, prediction, motion planning, and control systems for autonomous vehicles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and management skills.
  • Preferred: experience in autonomous vehicles or other robotics industries.
  • Preferred: experience using simulation tools.
  • Preferred: experience with verification and validation for safety-critical systems.

  • Base salary range of $240,000 to $330,000 USD.
