Description

  • Directly manage a team of engineers and help them ship features that delight Metabase users.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, and Success teams to plan and execute the product roadmap.
  • Balance feature development, technical improvements, and bug fixes in delivery planning.
  • Coach individual engineers, tune team processes, and remove obstacles to increase iteration speed.
  • Stay deeply technical and make decisions in the context of the problems the team is solving.
  • Hire, onboard, and nurture strong engineering individual contributors.
  • Debug project execution to identify issues in people, process, or project scope.
  • Translate product proposal documents and Figma designs into engineering requirements across the product stack.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in proposed product and engineering work.
  • Provide constructive technical feedback and engage in technical discussions to improve implementation plans.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience or equivalent experience building and improving engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a bias toward written communication in an async remote environment.
  • Ability to debug project execution and identify issues in people, process, or project scope.
  • Strong product sensibilities and ability to critically review product proposal docs and Figma designs.
  • Ability to translate product ideas into engineering requirements across the Metabase product stack.
  • Strong technical background in either the Clojure ecosystem or the Frontend ecosystem with React and TypeScript.
  • Ability to read code, technical design docs, and engage closely with implementation details.
  • Ability to coach and grow engineers in a low-structure environment without formal titles or well-defined career ladders.
  • Outcome-focused mindset with the ability to remove blockers and make delivery decisions.
  • Experience reducing risk through problem decomposition and iterative planning.
