Description

  • Contribute to the technical direction and implementation of human-machine and machine-machine teaming capabilities for autonomous airborne systems.
  • Design, develop, and deploy teaming features that improve the performance, safety, and resilience of human-machine teams.
  • Propose, design, and execute applied research and human subject experiments to evaluate teaming capabilities in realistic operations.
  • Support simulation, integration, and flight test activities to validate autonomy software in relevant environments.
  • Write, test, document, and review code in accordance with Merlin’s development standards.
  • Collaborate across teams to solve complex problems in aviation and autonomy.
  • Contribute independently or lead technical projects as needed.
  • Help develop novel systems that address key challenges in aviation autonomy.

Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience, including graduate work, developing software for airborne autonomous systems.
  • Deep experience in at least one area: human-machine interaction for crewed aircraft or UAS, multi-vehicle autonomy and decision-making algorithms, physiological signal monitoring software, or cognitive state modeling.
  • Experience with modern software development workflows, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, unit testing, and peer review.
  • Experience with the full product development cycle, including system-level and software-level design, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working in Linux and with open-source development tools.
  • Proficiency writing code in Python.
  • Experience with technical writing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and contribute across technical domains.
  • Preferred: proficiency with C++ and ROS.
  • Preferred: experience designing research plans and experiments to evaluate teaming effectiveness.
  • Preferred: experience with perception systems, sensor fusion, world modeling concepts, or Bayesian probabilistic methods.
  • Preferred: experience with proposal writing and technical roadmap development.
  • Preferred: familiarity with simulation software, especially aircraft simulation.
  • Preferred: experience with hardware/software integration and debugging.
  • Preferred: flight testing experience with uncrewed or crewed aircraft.
  • Preferred: pilot license and flight experience.
