Description

  • Work as part of a small cross-functional XP team installing Imogen into client cloud environments.
  • Partner with client infosec, infrastructure, and IT teams to deploy Imogen to customer cloud infrastructure.
  • Pair program and collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, designers, and other team members.
  • Lead and participate in technical discovery for customer systems and cloud infrastructure.
  • Adapt Imogen to fit customer public cloud estates and operational constraints.
  • Apply and evolve XP engineering practices including pair programming, test-driven development, refactoring, continuous integration, and continuous delivery.
  • Adapt engineering practices for working with AI tools, including co-writing code and managing agents.
  • Help onboard client developers and new Mechanical Orchard team members on practices and techniques.
  • Continuously learn emerging technologies and share knowledge through mentorship, tech talks, and similar activities.

Requirements

  • Professional experience as a software engineer in a team-based environment.
  • Exposure to or demonstrated passion for XP practices such as pair programming and test-driven development.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent foundational experience such as a coding bootcamp or similar technical training.
  • Strong strategic thinking, technical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and empathy for working closely with teams and customers.
  • Comfort with pair programming as the default way of working.
  • Experience with or demonstrated passion for cloud infrastructure and related tooling.
  • Comfort working with external customers and troubleshooting issues with customer network, infosec, and support teams (preferred).
  • Experience building and deploying to cloud infrastructure, including at least one infrastructure-as-code tool and one public cloud provider (preferred).
  • Experience developing a platform-as-a-service product (preferred).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes with Helm, Docker or Nix, and scripting languages such as Bash or Go (preferred).
  • Awareness that the role involves legacy mainframe systems, including COBOL and JCL, on-call rotation, pair programming, and periodic travel.
