Description

  • Design and deliver language instruction that builds functional proficiency from foundational to advanced levels.
  • Plan instruction around measurable proficiency objectives mapped to ILR levels.
  • Create real-world communication activities focused on speaking, listening, reading, and writing as required.
  • Use communicative, task-based, and feedback-rich instructional methods to support adult language learning.
  • Differentiate instruction and scaffold learning for mixed-proficiency groups while promoting learner autonomy.
  • Develop lesson plans, syllabi, and learning materials aligned to program goals and learner proficiency.
  • Adapt authentic materials such as news, professional documents, audio, and video for instructional use.
  • Integrate technology effectively to support virtual language learning.
  • Support placement, progress checks, and readiness activities using ILR-aligned performance tasks.
  • Provide clear learner feedback, maintain scheduling and communication, complete documentation, and uphold confidentiality and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience teaching or coaching languages to adult learners in person and/or virtually.
  • Native or near-native proficiency in the target language(s) and strong instructional command of English, as applicable.
  • Ability to design instruction around proficiency outcomes, with ILR/ACTFL-informed approaches welcomed.
  • Experience delivering structured instruction in a virtual environment using Zoom or comparable platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, reliability, and learner-centered professionalism.
  • Direct experience using the ILR scale for curriculum alignment, learner goal setting, and performance-based feedback.
  • Experience preparing learners for ILR-style speaking and listening performance expectations.
  • Government, military, foreign affairs, or professional language program experience.
  • Training or certifications in language pedagogy, instructional design, or assessment.
