Description

  • Build relationships with police departments and public safety agencies, including leadership, analysts, and frontline staff, to understand how they use data and where gaps limit impact.
  • Partner with agencies to identify priority data use cases and design and execute analytical products that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Translate public safety research and evidence into practical, accessible guidance, analysis, and products for agency executives.
  • Produce knowledge products such as practice guides, research briefs, and case studies that turn complex evidence into actionable insights.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with academic institutions, researchers, and policy stakeholders to strengthen the practice’s credibility and relevance.
  • Represent Mark43 in external forums and at conferences to contribute to field-level thinking on data-driven and evidence-informed public safety.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to connect agency insights and research to product development, company strategy, and customer success.
  • Design rigorous evaluation frameworks and help shape how Mark43 defines and supports effective data use across the field.
  • Operate independently in ambiguous environments while moving between strategic planning and practical execution.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience leading applied research initiatives.
  • PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Criminology, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years leading applied research in government, justice system, or policy environments.
  • Deep familiarity with public safety agencies and how they operate, including how to build trust for substantive partnerships.
  • Strong knowledge of the public safety research landscape and experience building relationships with agencies, researchers, and policymakers.
  • Experience working with justice system or other complex government data.
  • Experience producing knowledge and evidence-based products that make research accessible and actionable.
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous environments and take an entrepreneurial approach to building new work.
  • Comfort with up to 25% travel.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the country where the role is hired, and the company cannot sponsor or transfer an employment visa.
